It was a special day on the course for Tiger Woods and his family.
Moments after the 15-time major champion and his son, Charlie, finished the final round of the PNC Championship in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren sweetly embraced before she hugged their son Charlie and 17-year-old daughter Sam, who served as the twosome’s caddie.
Woods, 48, who was married to Nordegren, 44, from 2004-10, finished second in the family team event, where 15-year-old Charlie shot his first-ever hole-in-one.
The teenager sunk his tee shot on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, with Woods — who initially wasn’t watching until the roar of the crowd suggested otherwise — commemorating the milestone moment by wrapping his son in a giant bear hug.
“It was a perfect 7-iron so I just kind of hit it. Just 175 yards, a little down off the left, little cut seven,” Charlie told Golf Channel on Sunday.
“It was awesome. I didn’t think it went in. I don’t believe anybody until I go up there and see it.”
Even though Team Woods came up short in the playoff to Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, Woods was simply in awe following the family-filled tournament.
“That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, (daughter) Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That’s what this event is about. It’s about bonding and family,” said Woods, who finished with Charlie at 28-under.
“I know we didn’t win, but it was the fact that we competed.”
