Sean Manaea trains alongside Pete Alonso while hoping to have him as a teammate with the Mets

The Mets had three major players in free agency: Luis Severino, Sean Manaea and Pete Alonso. The first signed with the Athletics, the second agreed to return to Queens for three years and $75 million, while Alonso is still waiting to find out if he will remain with the team.

Meanwhile, Manaea and Alonso are already preparing for the upcoming season and are training together at Diesel Optimization in Tampa, although they do not know if they will do so as teammates, but the pitcher said he will always support him and wants him to return to the Mets.

“Give Pete Alonso the money he has earned after all these years and worry about the future. It won’t hurt their pockets,” McPherson said, adding that Mets owner Steve Cohen will have no problem giving Alonso the money he asks for to continue playing for the organization.

“This guy is made of money. We already saw him trade contracts. Now, all of a sudden, you can’t do the right thing with Pete Alonso because you have young talent on the way? Because David Stearns is telling you to evaluate the young guys?” the broadcaster told Audacy.
