Pete Alonso understood that a short-term deal is his future with the Mets, and two other free agents could follow in his footsteps

The ‘strategy’ to demand again in free agency

The excellent campaigns of the three players, experts said, are the ideal support to start building something more lucrative, so it is a good strategy that requires expected results with the franchises that hire them, in order to go back to free agency in a couple of seasons and based on that, ask for better conditions in eventual deals that ‘raise their category’.

Alonso is a guide for others in the same circumstances

This example encouraged other great figures who are in similar circumstances within free agency and everything seems to indicate that they will follow in Alonso’s footsteps. According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, prominent pitcher Jack Flaherty and outfielder Anthony Santander have been convinced that their respective paths to securing contracts lie in the same solution as the Mets first baseman.
