“I think it’s all the, all the … gay people in L.A.!” he said. (RELATED: Celebrities Share Crazy Footage, Frantic Updates As Wildfires Consume Their Homes)

The cameraman let out an audible laugh.

The live interaction between the reporter and the unknown man was as confusing as it was unusual.

“Why is there a fire happening right now?” he asked, as seen in a video shared on X. He pointed to the sky in an apparent state of confusion. The reporter was clearly caught off guard by his question. It’s unclear if the man was mocking the situation or if he was genuinely oblivious about the devastating Palisades Fires. Moments later, the man blamed “the gay people” for the blaze.

The outlet’s staffers quickly condemned the comment, with one of them saying it was “unacceptable” as the camera quickly shifted away from him and efforts were made to dismiss the awkward moment.

“You’re in the news, though, you’re supposed to know!” the man exclaimed. The reporter explained that nobody knows how the fires started, but the man immediately volunteered his own apparent explanation as to why Los Angeles was up in flames.
