This was a very interesting decision yet amusing to many, as the toilets at King Charles’ esteemed Sandringham Estate have made their mark in the 2024 Loo of the Year Awards, securing a prestigious Platinum Plus rating. The annual competition, which assesses restrooms across the United Kingdom on a variety of criteria, saw the royal facilities achieve second place, narrowly missing out on the coveted Diamond rating.
While Sandringham’s restrooms impressed the judges, they were ultimately edged out by the facilities at The Centre shopping mall in Livingston, West Lothian, which claimed the top spot. Nevertheless, the royal toilets’ second-place finish has added a unique accolade to the estate’s history and brought a sense of humor and prestige to the Loo of the Year Awards.
Encouraged by King Charles himself, the estate’s restrooms participated in the competition for the first time. The judges evaluated the facilities based on 100 different criteria, including cleanliness, accessibility, décor, and overall ambiance.
