FBI Does Another 180, Claims New Orleans Attacker Worked Alone Day After Conducting Manhunt For Accomplices

Raia urged those who knew Jabbar to reach out to the authorities with any information.

“We’re confident at this point that there are no other accomplices,” Raia reiterated later in the press conference.

The FBI said Thursday the suspect in New Orleans’ terrorist attack on New Year’s Day acted alone despite previous reports of potential accomplices.

The FBI reviewed surveillance footage showing Jabbar, a Texas-born U.S. citizen, placing improvised explosive devices (IED), two of which FBI bomb technicians recovered from coolers on streets surrounding the area attacked. Following their review, authorities concluded that no one else was involved in Jabbar’s attack.

“We do not asses, at this point, that anyone else is involved in this attack except for Shamsud-Din Jabbar,” FBI Counterterrorism Division Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia said in a press conference.

“A lot of the early reports came out that there were extra people who were setting the coolers down. It turns out those were just patrons on the street that were looking inside the coolers,” Raia continued. “But we didn’t know that at first so we had to track all that down and put that to rest.”

“Information changes. In fact, that’s why we ask the media for patience,” Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said in response to a reporter asking about the FBI’s switch up in information.

The FBI is confident the incident, which left 15 dead, including Jabbar, and injured dozens, was an act of terrorism.
