“Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to come into our country. They can stop them, and we’re going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico and Canada, because it also goes through Canada, and the drugs coming in are in record numbers,” he added.
The president-elect clarified that the United States would only use “economic force” to annex Canada before talking about the potential benefits of a North American union.
“I will introduce legislation as soon as possible to officially change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the name it deserves, Gulf of America!” Taylor wrote on his X account.
“The last time I visited Ottawa, I said that the United States chooses to link our future with Canada because we know we will not find a better ally, no closer partner and no more stable friend. The same can be said of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,” Biden tweeted moments after Trump’s comments.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the incoming president complained that the maple leaf country “gets subsidies to the tune of about $200 billion a year, plus other things. Basically, they don’t have an army. They have a very small army. They rely on ours. Everything is fine, but they have to pay for it,” he said.
Trump, 78, made the comments in a lengthy press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as he prepares to return to the White House on January 20, The Post reported.

The president-elect spoke as his son, Donald Trump Jr, visited Greenland as part of his attempt to woo the island’s 56,000 residents to support a break with Denmark and join the United States.
The name change of the Gulf of Mexico
One of Trump’s main allies in Congress, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, quickly tweeted her approval of the name change for the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2009, the island was granted self-government, although its residents remain full citizens of the European nation.
Trump also suggested, jokingly, that Canada become the 51st state, while more seriously pushing for the United States to acquire Greenland from Denmark, and suggesting that the United States might need to reassert control of the Panama Canal Zone, topics he also reviewed in his remarks.
