Coach Sean Payton pulled the trick play out of his back pocket early in the second quarter of Sunday’s wild-card clash against the Bills as the Broncos, trailing by three, faced a fourth-and-8 from their own 43-yard line.

Broncos kicker Wil Lutz had a chance to tie the game right before halftime with a 50-yard field goal attempt, but he doinked it off the right upright and it fell short of the crossbar.
The Broncos couldn’t have pulled off their fake punt any better.
A Tyler Bass 26-yard field goal on the Bills’ first drive got them to within 7-3, and running back James Cook finished a 13-play, 81-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to give the Bills the lead.
